Ka Pā Hula O Laʻakea
Ka Pā Hula O Laʻakea is Dancers Unlimited’s Sister Hālau based in Hawai’i & NYC.
Nā Wahine o Laʻakea (the women of sacred light) is a hālau hula (hula school) that was established in January of 2013 under the direction of Kumu Hula ʻAuliʻi Aweau-Teves and born out of her vision to create a culturally-based women and children’s support group on Oʻahu focused on healing through hula.
Over the years, her vision has grown and expanded to neighboring islands and the Continental US. Her work includes numerous collaborations with other kumu hula and cultural practitioners with the intention of strengthening and healing individuals, their family units, and their communities.
Kumu ʻAuliʻi completed her rites of passage and formally graduated as a Kumu Hula `Ūniki `Ailolo last year. On their 11th anniversary, the hālau was rededicated and named Ka Pā Hula o Laʻakea.
In 2024 - the Hālau established a chapter in NYC, making their debut at the La MaMa Moves! Festival. The Hālau has since performed at various events and community gatherings in NYC.
Passionate about the healing process and lifelong learning, ʻAuliʻi continues to weave cultural traditions of the past, in the present, to strengthen future generations. She has expanded her healing practice and hālau globally and continues to preserve and perpetuate the traditions of her teachers and their lineages as the Kumu Hula of Ka Pā Hula O Laʻakea. She is excited to share her love of hope, healing, and hula with the world!
