Pua AliʻI ʻIlima o Nuioka (PAʻI Nuioka)

Founded in 2010, Pua AliʻI ʻIlima o Nuioka (PAʻI Nuioka) is the NYC extension of Pua AliʻI ʻIlima, the hālau hula (school of traditional Hawaiian dance) of Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine and Kumu Hula Jeffrey Takamine, based in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. PAʻI Nuioka is co-led by their haumāna, Lenae Lehuanani Guarna and Roberta Māpuana Uno, and is comprised of haumāna from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Pua Aliʻi ʻIlima o Nūioka is a resident company of La MaMa Theatre's Indigenous Initiative.  The hālau has performed at the Prince Lot Festival on Oʻahu, the Queen Emma Festival on Kauaʻi, the La MaMa Moves Festival, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millennium Stage, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Festival, the New York Botanical Gardens and various New York City venues.
