Chloe Groom
With rhythm & plants as teachers, I have identified as a dancer for 20 years with technical training in modern dance, Sylvestre technique (Brazil), African Contemporary, West African, Old Way Vogue, House, Tahitian and Hula dance. Fueled by facing an unstable environment, I earned a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor's degree in Sustainable Ecosystems and Soil Science, and undergraduate studies in Dance Media & Choreography at Arizona State University and Dance Performance at University of Waikato in Aotearoa. Since graduation in 2012, I opened an herbal apothecary and lead classes in Contemporary and free-form dance jams paired with plant medicines as a social tool for camaraderie. Professionally, I have studied and performed with international companies and projects based in Salvador, Brazil and Lisbon, Portugal while training in their movement specialties. I moved from Phoenix to Honolulu in 2018 and began an MFA in Performance and Choreography at University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. In 2021, I left UH Mānoa and deepened independent dance research surrounding biomimicry. In 2022, I began performing and choreographing with Dancer’s Unlimited. I am a farmer, surfer, mother, teacher, student, mover and full-time certified herbalist. I encourage eco-literacy and the holistic approach of movement as a way to heal through psycho-nuero-immunology. My style of teaching centers around the elements, promotes kinesthetic awareness, and moves from slow and centered to whirling and momentous! I am currently digging back into low-flow, floor work explorations and enjoying weekly practice in modern and Tahitian dance styles. You can find me bouncing around at the club too. House is a feeling.
