candice taylor (crt)
Candice ‘CRT’* Taylor, born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Hailing from a musical family, singing and music was their first introduction into the world of art. The first dance form they chose to explore was Krump. It was within this style they truly found their voice which allowed them to tell their story. They began their formal dance training in high school at Boston Arts Academy and continued their studies throughout college. After receiving their bachelor’s they went on to work for Disney Cruise Line as a character performer. They arrived in New York at age 22 ready to conquer the city. They have had the privilege to work with artists such as Tweet Boogie, Sekou Heru, Soraya Lundy, and Sidra Bell.
CRT joined Dancers Unlimited in 2019, after creating and training with the company at its open rehearsals since 2017. Since becoming Co-Artistic Director in 2021, they have helped establish collaborative relationships with organizations such as Brooklyn Grange, Good Life Garden, La Mama Experimental Theater. They have also facilitated workshops in NYC, Boston, Hawai’i, Brazil and virtually. Their new work Soul Food was recently featured at the 42nd Annual Battery Dance Festival and La Mama Moves! Festival 2024.
They enjoy using dance as a way of connecting with humans and communicating and exchanging energy, stories, ideas and philosophies. They wish to continue to use movement as a vessel for cultivating change. Their body is their voice and they feel it is their duty to speak as loud as possible.
